10:45am – 2:45pm
@ The Los Gatos Neighborhood Center
208 E. Main St., Los Gatos
Friends of Los Gatos Library will sponsor the Annual Young Writers Workshops for aspiring young authors ages 8 through 12.
Please submit a completed registration form (download form here) and a check for $15 written to Friends of Los Gatos Library. Deliver or mail check and registration to Friends of Los Gatos Library, 100 Villa Avenue, Los Gatos, 95030. Classes are limited to 15 students.
Workshop leader, Cheryl McKenzie of Los Gatos is a published author of fiction for young readers. Cheryl will open the world of character creation and plot-story development to workshop participants. Cheryl, who writes under the name of C. Lee McKenzie, is a native Californian, wrote her first popular young adult novel, Sliding on the Edge, in 2009, a fictionalized account that offers some insights into the emotional and psychological growing pains of teens; in 2010 she published The Princess of Las Pulgas (Princess of the Fleas).
Young workshop participants quickly find that writing is an exhilarating experience, as their imaginations take hold. For students who have a story in their heads but are reluctant to put pencil to paper, volunteers will be available to serve as private secretaries who write while the young authors dictate their stories.
Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch to the Saturday workshop. Friends of the Library will provide all writing materials, plus water, juice drinks and cookies. Students will receive confirmation of registration by phone or email.
